The Prophet’s Teachings On Covering Up The Faults of Others

The Prophet (PBUH) said, “Allah will cover up on the Day of Judgement  the faults of the one who covers up the faults of the others in this world”.
[Muslim].

Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Every one of my followers will be forgiven except those who expose (openly) their wrongdoings. An example of this is that of a man who commits a sin at night which Allah has covered for him, and in the morning, he would say (to people): “I committed such and such sin last night,’ while Allah had kept it a secret. During the night Allah has covered it up but in the morning he tears up the cover provided by Allah Himself.”
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

commentary:  Allah himself covers up the sin of man.  Then he goes and boasts about it.

The Prophet (PBUH) said, “When a servant commits fornication and this fact of fornication has become evident, s/he must be given the penalty of fifty lashes without hurling insults; if  s/he does it again, s/he must be given the penalty but she should not be rebuked…”

Commentary: In Islam fortification is one of the great sins a person can do.  The person should be punished but not insulted.  Also, this punishment is only to be once the person’s sin has been made evident.  The lashes can not be done with full force.  Modestly, and protecting the private parts from fornications is one of the basic social objectives Islam wants to achieve to make the institution of marriage sacred.

A man who had drunk wine was brought to the Prophet (PBUH) and he asked us to beat him; some struck him with their hands, some with their garments (making a whip) and some with their sandals. Some of the people said: “May Allah disgrace you!” He (the Prophet (PBUH)) said, “Do not say so. Do not help the devil against him”.
[Al-Bukhari].

commentary:  Being drunk is also one of the social evils wants to totally eradicate from its society.  There is a punishment for being drunk & drinking.  Punishments should not be done in a way to insult the person.  Nowadays, when people who are put in prison suffer  many insults are hurled at the them, and many things are done to make them feel less human.  This is forbidden in Islam.
