About AllahOctober 27th, 2014 | Category: Blog, Your Qur'an
Allah (SWT) is the proper name in Arabic language for One and Only God; this word does not have any plural or gender equivalent. Allah existed on His own, He is not begotten by someone and He begot none.
Oneness: The fundamental belief of Islam is that there is a God. He is The One, Only and True God, known by the name of Allah (SWT). No one else is worthy of worship except Allah (SWT). No person or object can be associated with Allah as His equal, partner or associate in His power and authority.
To be a true Muslim one must have firm conviction in oneness of Allah, that “There is no one worthy of worship except Allah (SWT) and Muhammed (SAW) is His Messenger and slave.” A Muslim must have strong faith in attributes of Allah; some of them are described here.
Creator and Sustainer: Allah (SWT) is Rab-bul-Aalamin (Lord of the worlds). Allah (SWT) is the One Who creates, maintains, and brings all that is in the universe to perfection. Allah is our Creator, Sustainer and also Protector, Guide, Judge, Ruler and the Owner of the Day of Judgment.
Gracious and Merciful: Ar-Rahman, aR-rAHEEM. Allah is the Most Gracious and the Most Merciful, very kind to His creation always ready to pardon their mistakes and ready to embrace them with love and forgiveness.
All Knowing: AL-Alim. Knowledge of Allah (SWT) encompasses all that is hidden and manifested. We cannot comprehend Him fully, with our limited knowledge. We can understand Him only by His attributes. Allah (SWT) has created all planets, stars and galaxies, sun, moon, earth, mountains, rivers, trees, all creatures, insects, birds, animals, and human beings, without any sample, by His own intellect and knowledge.
Most Powerful: Al-Aziz. Allah (SWT) is All Capable and Absolute in His power; all Seeing, all Listening. He does whatever He wants to do by His command. He says,“Be it” and “it becomes”. He has ultimate authority over all the affairs of this universe. He is the Absolute, Complete, Perfect and He is the Master of everything in the universe and His powers are infinite. Anything that happens in the universe happens with His permission and as per His commands. On the Day of Judgment, everything will return to Him and everyone will be answerable to Him.
Here are few beautiful verses of Quran in which attributes of Allah (SWT) have been described.
“He is Allah (SWT), besides whom there is no God, the Knower of unseen and the seen. He is Merciful, Very Merciful. He is Allah (SWT) besides Him there is no God, the Sovereign, the Supreme-in-Holiness, the Safe (from all defects), the Giver-of-Peace, the Guardian, the All mighty, the All-Repairer, the Sublime. Allah (SWT) is pure from what they associate with Him. He is Allah (SWT) the Creator, the Inventor, and the Shaper. His are the most beautiful Names. His purity is proclaimed by all that is in the heaven and the earth, and He is the All-mighty, All-Wise.” 59:22-24.
There is no God but Him
The Infinitely Enduring
Slumber or sleep never reaches Him. All the things are His, in heavens and on the earth. Who is there who can plead in His presence except as He permits? He knows what (appears to His creatures), before or after or behind them. They shall not understand the smallest fragment of His knowledge except as He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and over the earth and He does not tire guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Supreme (in Glory).
“O mankind! Surely, the Messenger (Muhammad) has come to you in truth from your Lord: Believe in him: It is best for you (to believe in him). But if you reject Faith, to Allah (SWT) belong all things in the heavens and on earth: And Allah (SWT) is forever All Knowing, All Wise”. 4:170.
All that is in the heaven and earth gives glory to Allah (SWT). He is Almighty, All Wise. To Him belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He ordains life and death and He is able to do all things. He is the first and (He is) the Last, and All Present, (Omnipresent, the All Evident): And (He is) the Hidden and He is the All knower of all (minutest) things.57:1-3
